Your three year old will sit down for about ten minutes. Your five year old will sit down for twenty and then ask for the next page. This book is built for both of them.
LUMO's First Learning Adventure is built for that gap. Fifty-seven pages, and every activity comes in three levels, so the same page works for the one who needs help and the one who does not. A fawn called LUMO walks your child through seven small worlds, and each world is six pages: a picture to look at, a few things to do, and a badge at the end of it.
It is one book, in order, rather than a folder of unrelated worksheets. The colours your child sorts in the meadow come back in the counting forest. The shapes they traced turn up on a hunt round the kitchen. A three year old notices that, and it is the reason they come back to page eleven a week later.
Every page says one thing, in words you can read out loud without rehearsing them. Point to the red one. Count the acorns. Which two go together. Nothing needs explaining twice, which is the whole trick at this age.
And no page grades anything. There are three levels on every activity so the same book still works in six months, and the certificate at the end is for trying, not for finishing.
What you get
- The whole book, 57 pages, as one PDF for A4 paper
- The same book as one PDF for US Letter paper
- A Start Here page that tells you which file is yours
- Seven worlds: colors, shapes, counting to five, matching, patterns, first pencil lines, big and small
- Three levels on every activity, so it lasts past the first month
- A certificate for the last day, which awards trying rather than finishing
What your child practises
- Naming and sorting colors
- Recognising circles, squares and triangles, and spotting them in the room
- Counting to five, and matching a number to how many things are there
- Matching pairs, shadows and where things belong
- Seeing what repeats, and saying what comes next
- Pencil control, the step before letters
What you need
A printer, paper and crayons. That is the whole list. Nothing to laminate, nothing to assemble, no velcro.
A note on age
This is written for three to five. Three levels on every activity is what makes that range work: a three year old starts at the first, a five year old goes straight to the third. If a page is hard today it will be easy in a month, so put it aside and come back. That is not a flaw in the book, that is how small children work.
This is a digital product. Nothing is posted to you. You get the files straight after buying, for your own family to print as often as you like.
