LUMO's Numbers & Counting Adventure Kit

Your child can already count to ten. Out loud, in the car, in the bath, usually skipping four.

Saying the numbers and knowing what they mean are two different things, and the second one is quieter. It arrives the day a child stops chanting and starts pointing. One biscuit. Two shoes. That is counting, and the words on their own were never it.

This kit is built for the gap between the two. LUMO the fawn goes out into the meadow to find the numbers, and your child comes along. Every number from one to ten gets a page of its own: the numeral, the word, exactly that many things to touch and count, and four boxes that go from a number shown with arrows, to a dashed one, to a faint one, to an empty box that is entirely theirs.

Then the numbers stop sitting still. There are groups to count and circle, baskets to fill, animals to feed, a trail of stones to cross in order, and a page near the end where your child picks a number nobody chose for them and draws that many things.

Ten minutes is a good session. Some days it will be one page.

What is included

• Both paper sizes, A4 and US Letter, so it prints properly wherever you are

What your child is building

• Matching a written number to a real quantity of things
• Counting one thing at a time, touching each one once
• Recognizing a numeral by its shape, from one to ten
• Early pencil control, with a finger first and a pencil whenever they are ready

What you need

A printer and paper. A crayon or a chunky pencil for the writing pages. Scissors for the two cutting pages, and those are a grown-up job.

How it works

This is a digital product. Nothing is posted to you. The files are yours to download and print at home, as many times as you like, for as long as you keep them.
